Iowa bill of sale for a vehicle

For buyers and sellers who want a written record of a private car sale in Iowa.

An Iowa bill of sale proves the price, and the county treasurer uses it for the fee for new registration. It must be signed by the seller. Newer Iowa titles have a bill of sale section you can use instead. If the title has no such section, a separate bill of sale is required.

Does Iowa have an official bill of sale form?

We have not confirmed an official Iowa bill of sale form for a private car sale. Ask the Iowa Department of Transportation which form to use.
